Pah! Out with the Mac! Aug 02. 055
Hoorah, after having to suffer a month as a ‘new media’ type working on a Apple Mac here at Bite CP I took delivery on Friday of a shiny new Dell PC. Now. I’ll be the first to admit that I kinda fancied the idea of working on a Mac. After all OSX is sooooo sexy, it simply blows XP away.
But, and this is the big one. I think it’s true to say that more than 90% of web users are PC based. So, why on earth would I go to all this effort to make life that much harder for myself. Testing, testing, testing… it’s all about the testing. When you have to deal with the likes of Internet Exploder it’s so much easier to be on a PC. So, it’s back to what I know best… where regardless of the annoyances I feel comfortable and warm.
The Mac is still there for testing on Safari (Not that is misbehaves that much) but beyond that my short lived time as a Mac user has come to and end.
I must say although I have Konfabulator installed I’m struggling to see what it offers users that is of ‘real’ merit. Perhaps I just don’t have the right widgets installed…?
I run two, three at the most.
Weather, CPU (that way I can tell whether some app is being a hog), and the little Picture Frame widget – set to a smaller size.
Besides, the interfaces are just too damn sexy to leave hidden away!
Dell? Bah!
I do like them PC’s though. OS X may be purty but it messes up just as much as any Windows box and I am far more productive on Windows so PC it be for me.
Once a PC -> never a pc again. Give me mac. (I have two) Had a pc for 12 years and I have two macs for approx. 6 years and I think I will never change again. The Macs have never (really not) crashed till now,, with a pc that’s a big difference. Once in a while safari stops beceause of a website that is completley written for windows. I still have to use windows because 90% of the computers are windows but I really don’t like it.
I was a mac user for YEARS (since way back when) – and in some ways, I still am.
But now my primary machine is a home-built AMD setup with XP Pro, and I’m just as happy. It doesn’t crash any more than my macs did, I keep it behind a firewall, check for viruses every so often, and it runs like a peach.
Plus, with Konfabulator now free… I get a lot of the same stuff you can get on a mac.
