Nathan Pitmanhello, my name is

Will you be at the Carson Summit? Jan 16. 0610

Like probably every other web designer out there @media 2006 is an event that I’d love to attend, however the registration fee of £395 (+VAT) really blows my chances out of the water.

First off I have to get any expenses past the financial controller wife, then following that I’d have to consider whether I’m really that desperate to blow upwards of £500 (once I factor in travel and beer) on a 2 day jolly in London. I guess it’s all a bit different if you’re working for an agency (like I used to) and you can get the expenses past the relevant person, but when you’re your own boss that figure really smarts.

@media 2006 - London - 15th - 16th June

Instead I’ve decided to book my place at one of the upcoming Carson Workshops; The Carson Summit – The Future of Web Apps. There’s a really exciting list of speakers including respected figures from Delicious, 37 Signals and Flickr to name just a few.

At just £75 (+VAT) it seems a bit of a steal if you ask me. If you’ve got your place reserved add your mugshot to the Carson Summit Flickr group and maybe I’ll see you there. :)

You’ll see me ;) Can’t wait.

we are thinking or running a euro mashup “unconference”…

should be quite cheap – although if mainland europeans show more interest it may involve travel.

here is a mashup so we can track who might want to come

It’s a shame that all the Carson workshop places are now gone, as that sounds great. Unfortunately @Media is the week our baby’s due, so I can’t risk a non-refundable £500 when there’s a good chance I won’t be able to go, or worse still I get a call half way through and have a 2 hour+ panicked journey home!

Strangely – I’ve decided to do the opposite (even though I agree that the cost of @media admission is quite pricey!)....I’m not going to the Carson Workshops and instead ‘hoping’ to have scraped enough funds together for a ticket to @media instead.

Stuart: Yes I guess there is the potential to make the money back but I’d rather test the waters on that theory with an event which costs less to attend. Hey if I get a bunch of work out of the people I meet at the Carson Summit I might sign up for @media! :)

Yep I’ll be there. Looking forward to it.

Re: @media, wouldn’t you potentially make the money back through what you learn/people you meet etc?

I’ve splashed out this year and I’m attending both! Sweet.

Everyone seems to be going, glad I got my seat early.

Hi James, not enjoying it much I’m afraid. In the end I couldn’t make it up to London for the summit. Gutted. :/
