Just to clarify my position in the Mac vs PC debate Thursday May 10, 2007

Some time having passed, I thought that I should ‘come clean’ and clarify my position in the Mac vs PC debate. Back in August 2005 I blogged about the end of a short term relationship with a G5.

At that time I was well and truly convinced that I would never again be tempted by a Mac. However, back in October last year I took delivery of a shiny new MacBook.

My reasoning was that working with a number of clients who were Mac based, I needed to be able to verify the compatibility of any code I produced in Safari (The default Mac OS web browser). I had also for a long time been considering purchasing a laptop for use in client meetings and at training sessions. I weighed up the options and originally looked at purchasing a HP laptop and then bagging a 2nd hand Mac Mini off eBay for browser testing.

Balancing up the pro’s and con’s of each option it soon became clear that my investment would be much better made in a single machine and so the MacBook it was.

7 months later and I’m a total convert. I couldn’t love my MacBook more and I’m looking forward to replacing my Dell desktop which I use predominantly during the day with a higher spec Mac later this year.

There you go, I’m out of the closet.

    I used to think the same way. Not that I was anti-Mac, but I figured if everyone was on Windows, why bother? However, after getting a Macbook for browser testing, I found myself liking it more and more, and am now on OS X completely.

    I’ve been jumping back and forth other the years as well. I bought a G5 a few years back and ended up selling it because I just couldn’t get any web work done as fast as I could with my PC using TopStyle and the far superior PC versions of Fw/Dw.

    After Bootcamp was announced I picked up an intel Mac mini and now I’m loving OS X. I still can’t code as fast as I could with TopStyle but CSSEdit is coming along nicely and I’m glad I registered. Plus, I can Parallel into my Bootcamp partition and get some quick CSS edits in without missing a beat.

    I’m definitely picking up another Mac mini when the new models are announced. Then I’ll move my current mini into the living room as a HTPC. I feel that the mini is a way better content viewer than the AppleTV since the mini can be easily upgraded with Flip4Mac and other free codecs for a wide variety of viewing options.

    Eventually I plan on having a mini in the office, the living room and the soon to finished off basement all streaming media from a central media repository and controlled via a Wiimote via RemoteBuddy. The basement mini will have my wireless XBOX 360 controller hooked up to play any game ever emulated... good times.

    In short, I’m hooked on Apple now.

    ...how’s that for inline links? :)

    It took you a while, but nice to see you’ve come round eventually :)

    @Dan: Thanks!

    @Nathan: Sounds like we’ve had a pretty much identical experience!

    @Craig: Nice inline links. Thanks!

    @Drew: You knew I would in the end, it was just a matter of time.
